Fabien San Martin
Following a classical conservatory education, Fabien San Martin pursued postgraduate studies in Philosophy at the Sorbonne, where he explored the concept of “art brut” as applied especially to music. He is currently preparing his doctoral thesis under the supervision of Jean-Paul Olive (University of Paris-VIII). The thesis seeks to demonstrate that the revolutionary element in the work of Luigi Nono (1924-1990) is inseparable from his pure musical creativity, and sets out to explore the degree to which the entirely phenomenological work the Venetian composer tackles through a music which both engages and calls into question its listeners’ perceptions is ultimately and in a strict sense political struggle and social activism-indeed, the very symbol of his utopia.
Fabien San Martin teaches musical education in Sevran (Seine-Saint-Denis).
