Costas Grammenos
Costas Grammenos, an academic, has been a visiting professor at City University, London since 1982, where he became Professor of Shipping, Trade, and Finance in 1986, also founding the centre of that name. In 1984 he established the MSc in that field; in 1997 the MSc in Logistics, Trade and Finance; and in 2002 the MSc in Energy, Trade & Finance. He is the Vice Chancellor of City University and Dean of the undergraduate program at the university’s Cass Business School. He is also Visiting Professor at the University of Antwerp. From 1998 to 2002 he was President of the International Association of Maritime Economists, while in 2006 he was appointed president of the newly formed International Hellenic University, based in Thessaloniki. In 1994, Queen Elizabeth made him Officer of the British Empire for his work in education and his promotion of British-Greek relations. In 1998 he was Seatrade Personality of the Year, while in 1999 he was awarded the highest academic accolade in the UK, the Doctor of Science. In 2009 he was honored once again by Queen Elizabeth, named Commander of the British Empire for his contributions to teaching and research. In December 2011, he was named by Lloyd’s List, the British shipping magazine, as one of the most influential figures in the international shipping industry, achieving the ranking of 65. He is also a member of the American Bureau of Shipping.
