Christina Dounia

Christina Dounia is a Professor Emerita of Modern Greek Literature at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She has also taught at the University of Crete and the University of Ioannina, while she has given guest lectures and seminar courses at universities abroad.

Among her most important books in Greek are: “Literature and Politics in the Interwar Years: Leftist Literary Reviews” (Athens: Kastaniotis, 1996); “It’s Raining in This Dream” (short stories, Athens: Kastaniotis, 1998); “K.G. Karyotiakis: The Resilience of an Independent Art” (Athens: Kastaniotis, 2000); “Petros Pikros: The Limits and the Transgression of Naturalism” (Athens: Gavriilidis, 2006); Captivated by E. A. Poe's writing” (Athens: Gavriilidis, 2019); “Argonauts and Companions: The Literary Field in the 1930s” (Athens: Estia, 2020). She has published studies, articles, and reviews on Modern Greek literature, the history of new Greek literature and critique, comparative literature, and 20th-century poetry and prose, in various conference proceedings, scientific reviews, and literary sections of different periodicals. She was honored with the National Essay Award in 2000, the Academy of Athens bestowed the Essay Award upon her in 2016, and in 2021, she received the essay award of the electronic journals O Anagnostis (The Reader) and O Hartis (The Map).
