Bringing the History of bookbinding to life through Augmented Reality applications | Corinthos
Sunday, 26 January, 2025 | The Onassis Library travels to Fondation Kaloy, in Corinthos
Did you think that books only hide secrets between their covers? At the Onassis Library, the history and art of bookbinding begins with the ingenuity of Epirote typographers of the Greek diaspora and is brought to life by means of augmented reality apps. An interactive artistic workshop where history unfolds right on your screens.
Papers and leather covers, ornaments, fasteners and bone folders, glues and clamps will be the tools you’ll use to practice an art that will win you over for life. Everything you need to tame double-headed eagles, mermaids with two tails, wild bees, angry griffins, sea monsters, and centaurs, brought to life before your very eyes with the help of new technologies that spark the imagination and unleash your creativity. Which logo will you choose to print, securing your place in history forever?
As part of this workshop, you’ll get the chance to bring to life printer’s marks of the Ioannite print entrepreneurs Nikolaos Glykys, Nikolaos Sarros, Dimitrios and Panos Theodosiou, and Andreas Ioulianos using a mobile phone or tablet and the Artivive augmented reality (AR) app.
Don’t miss the chance to make your own notebook, making use of everything you saw and learned, but also all the art there is inside you.
