Konstantinos Pittas

Konstantinos Pittas is an architect, writer, and researcher specializing in spatial politics, public space, and cultural policy. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge (2021), where his research focused on the relationship between cultural institutions, architecture, and democracy. He has completed postgraduate studies in Comparative Literature and European Culture at the University of Cambridge (2016), holds a degree in Architectural Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (2014), and was a visiting researcher at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation at Columbia University in New York (2018–2019).

The Onassis Foundation supported both his doctoral and postgraduate studies. In addition, he has received awards and scholarships from the Cambridge Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC–DTP), the Cambridge Commonwealth, European, and International Trust, and the NEON Cultural Organization, among others.

He is the founder of KP OFFICE, an interdisciplinary creative studio operating at the intersection of architecture, exhibition design, and research. The office focuses on architectural studies and the implementation of architectural projects. It also specializes in the planning of cultural productions and exhibitions related to architecture, urban landscape, design, public space, and cultural heritage, both in Greece and abroad. Finally, it undertakes the design and implementation of artistic projects in public spaces.

He was coordinator of the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens, during the documenta 14 international art exhibition in 2017 and a member of Dimitris Papaioannou’s creative team for the design of the Opening Ceremony of the First European Games 2015 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

His essays and articles on architecture, public space, culture, and the relationship between arts and politics have appeared in scientific journals (e.g., “Theory, Culture & Society,” “Antipode,” “Cultural Critique,” etc.), edited volumes, and electronic and print media.
His book, “The Solitude of the One,” was recently published by Aiolos Publications in Greek, while he co-edited the collective volume “Cities of Tomorrow” (Nissos Academic Publishing). His forthcoming monograph, “Towards the Democratization of Cultural Institutions,” will be published by Routledge.
