Dance as you’ve never imagined it in a production whose every scene can safely be described as revelatory.
CZECH REPUBLIC
The Onassis Stegi presents the Greek première of a company from Prague, Experimentální prostor NoD, which rarely performs outside the Czech Republic. Dora Sulženko Hoštová has choreographed a duet on the performance process itself; it’s as though she’s excavating a work which is gradually revealed as layer after layer is removed.
Hoštová gives the audience an insight into the preparation that goes into staging a performance and all the research, repetition and exhaustion that entails. But she goes beyond that to create a unitary whole out of unexpected and wholly original scenes which never resort to cliché. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that every scene is a revelation.
The two performers are certainly amazing dancers, but it’s the simplicity with which they exist on stage that wins over the audience-the simplicity of authentic artists in the context they live and create in who never pretend to be anything else. The work is structured to keep the audience riveted throughout by keeping them guessing until the very end about how things are going to work out.
