Kubrick’s "The Shining" in a new digitally-processed copy which restores 24 minutes of cut scenes at the Onassis Stegi for a single showing.
Stephen King may have had his reservations about “The Shining” (1980), but Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation will always remain both an extremely scary movie and one of the best screen adaptations of the author’s work. A stellar example of psychological horror, it quickly established itself as a classic—the shot of Jack Nicholson’s crazed face leering through the hole he’s just hacked in a door is iconic.
Bridging the gap between 1980—when the film first hit an unsuspecting public—and 2016, the film that would bring Stanley Kubrick closer to the horror of conservative America and even deeper into the labyrinth of a tortured mind was released this year with 24 minutes of cut footage which had never before been screened in a European auditorium.
Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” will be shown at the Onassis Stegi in all its 144-minute glory, bearing out the brand new trailer’s claim that this movie “demands to be seen on the big screen".
The screening of “The Shining” will be followed by a themed party at an Athenian hotel.

Once a month between December 2016 and May 2017, film lovers will be able to take in a never-unsurprising series of screenings at the Onassis Stegi which will introduce audiences to new artists, travel the world, and put the cinema we want to see on the big screen.
The program will include selections from world cinema, première screenings of much-loved Greek films, retrospectives dedicated to unexplored zones of contemporary cinema, challenges issued by the small to the silver screen, classic masterpieces like we’ve never seen them before, film-makers that time has not forgotten, and films for children which will delight their parents, too.
What’s more, our monthly dates will be expanding beyond the auditorium. Accompanied as they are by a variety of live performances, film seminars and workshops, concerts and discussions with the public, the Flix it series at the Onassis Stegi will offer film-lovers an all-encompassing cinematic experience and another way to view cinema.
