Flix.gr now has a monthly slot at the Onassis Stegi. Promising more than a few surprises, its screenings will introduce audiences to new artists, travel the world, and put the cinema we want to see on the big screen.
We will be getting the series underway with the world première of “The Great Eastern” by Lakis and Aris Ionas (The Callas). Freely based on the novel by Andreas Embirikos and shot entirely on Hydra, The Callas’ follow-up to “Lustlands” brings together people of every social class and age as they await an ocean liner, the “Great Eastern”, which will take them on a journey in search of a new utopian society based on friendship, solidarity, mutual respect, love and passion.
To mark the premiere, The Callas will be joining forces with Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, who created the soundtrack for the film, to premiere a live performance (curated by Nadja Argyropoulou) which they have been working on together over the last two years. There will be also a dj set by the Vouno.
The Onassis Stegi embarks on its collaboration with the cinematic Flix.gr. Once a month between December 2016 and May 2017, film lovers will be able to take in a never-unsurprising series of screenings at the Onassis Stegi which will introduce audiences to new artists, travel the world, and put the cinema we want to see on the big screen.
The program will include selections from world cinema, première screenings of much-loved Greek films, retrospectives dedicated to unexplored zones of contemporary cinema, challenges issued by the small to the silver screen, classic masterpieces like we’ve never seen them before, film-makers that time has not forgotten, and films for children which will delight their parents, too.
What’s more, our monthly dates will be expanding beyond the auditorium. Accompanied as they are by a variety of live performances, film seminars and workshops, concerts and discussions with the public, the Fliχ it series at the Onassis Stegi will offer film-lovers an all-encompassing cinematic experience and another way to view cinema.
