Secret Gig I

As part of its commitment to hosting as broad a range of trends in contemporary Greek art and music as possible, the Onassis Stegi is launching a new initiative: "Secret Gigs". A series of three concerts will allow audiences to acquaint themselves with bands from the alternative scene, and the bands themselves to perform in a venue with excellent acoustics.

The first "Secret Gig" will feature one of the most established (Chapter 24) and one of the most promising (Mechanical) groups active on the scene today.

"Chapter 24" were formed in Ioannina by a group of medical students in 1982. The multi-instrumentalist, composer and doctor Antonis Livieratos and the brothers Boulouchtsis (Periklis & Vaggelis) still form the core of the group, which remains together after three decades of recordings and live appearances. Whether their music is avant-garde or pop is a question they prefer to leave open--they are certainly receptive to material of all kinds, “from the mystic rite of sound creation to pure noise”, and the group leaves no path unexplored, from ambient and experimental to electronica and electro-acoustic music.

"Mechanimal" is a new band formed by Giannis Papaioannou, a musician and producer who has long been a fixture on the Greek indie scene. The band’s self-titled debut album was hailed as one of last year’s most interesting releases. Their sound combines theatrical vocals with monophonic synthesizers, metronomic noise and distorted guitars.
