An event dedicated to the great innovator and composer.

“...to imitate nature in her manner of operation” - John Cage

Certain ideas and concepts keep reappearing in John Cage’s philosophy: silence (or its absence), indefiniteness, simultaneity, multiplicity and randomness -all of which are aspects of a contemporary view of nature and its workings. In the nineteen sixties, he presented "Musicircus" and works that mirror its logic and hinge on the multiple nature of the audience’s aesthetic experience: music, images and performances in a pre-defined space and time…

But what are “Musicircus”? Everything from simply inviting musicians and artists to take part in an event without a lot of rules, to composing detailed works intended to coexist relatively freely and to share the same starting point, subject-matter or technique. A single element (auditory or not) can often help articulate a performance, and in our tribute, this role is played by “Diary: How to Improve the World (You Will Only Make Matters Worse)”, a 344-minute work without pauses recorded by Cage himself. Its main theme: Cage and his work in music, the visual arts, theatre and literature.

"Musicircus" will take place over six hours in various parts of the Onassis Stegi; the audience will be free to wander the building freely and enjoy this unique musical experience.
