A magnificent musical depiction of the six days of the World’s Creation as related in the Book of Genesis.
The Camerata have reserved for Christmas the first Greek performance on early 19th-century period instruments of a monumental work which many consider Haydn’s masterpiece and the epitome of the classical symphonic style whose ‘father’ the Austrian composer is widely held to be.
After his extremely successful collaboration with the Camerata on classical period instruments, the director of the Greek National Opera, Myron Michailidis, returns to the Onassis Stegi with this oratorio. With him on stage, the City of Athens mixed choir, which is now one of the Camerata’s regular collaborators, conducted by Stavros Beris. Three leading Greek opera singers breathe life into the Angels who describe and comment on the six days of Creation, and into the first couple, Adam and Eve, whose musical presentation is highly reminiscent of Papageno and Papagena from Mozart’s "The Magic Flute".F.J.
