Pandora's Box
The Onassis Stegi is staging a conference in parallel with the internationally acclaimed Lumen Prize exhibition. The event aims to investigate the history and evolution of digital art, the influence of new media on contemporary art forms, and the past, present and future of this particular form of artistic expression in relation to technological advances. The conference will focus on issues including art prizes and their impact on the digital art development, the role of art in the information era, the aesthetic influences of digital art, the interface between art and research, interactive art, multimedia environments, video games, creative coding, the preservation of digital art, technological advances and their importance, and the market rules governing the digital arts.
In an attempt to bring together theory and practice and to achieve the greatest possible range of opinions, the guest speakers include both theoreticians and artists, all of whom are internationally acknowledged in their field. Having academic research, artistic creativity and maintaining a close relationship with an ever-changing art form as their starting points, the speakers will be conveying their valuable knowledge and experience to the attendants.
On the occasion of the conference and as a preview of the Lumen Prize Exhibition, the interactive work “Murmur”, which won the Lumen Prize Silver Award for 2014, will be on view from October 22 to November 10 on the Onassis Stegi’s 4th floor foyer (Opening hours: Monday - Friday 17:00-22:00 and Saturday - Sunday: 12:00-21:00. Free admission).
