The opening night of the first Greek Jazz Panorama will feature three Greek virtuosos with soul, imagination and power—which is to say three genuine artists—joining forces with a truly stellar improviser to form an explosive contemporary jazz combo for an evening of Mediterranean-tinged jazz and contemporary improvisation.
Trilogia—George Trantalidis on drums, George Kontrafouris at the Hammond and Yiotis Samaras on electric guitar—join forces with Gilad Atzmon, the spirited Jewish saxophonist who declares himself a Hebrew-speaking Palestinian. Over and beyond his militant politics, Atzmon is one of a group of internationally-celebrated jazzmen who combine the express train momentum of bebop with the sounds of the East.
This is the first time these four talented musicians have met on stage, and given the important recordings and wealth of experience as group leaders and members of other international ensembles they each bring to the encounter, we have every reason to expect fireworks.
Trilogia and Gilad Atzmon promise an evening of vibrant, imaginative music, rhythm, fun, soul, intensity and flawless playing in which East meets West. A contemporary yet timeless fusion of cultures through jazz and improvisation, fueled by the traditions and sounds of Greece, the Mediterranean and the Arab world.
