The Hellenic Project is planning and staging one more discussion on Greek song.
The Hellenic Project has been planning and staging discussions on Greek song since 2011. The interest music-lovers have shown in these events, coupled with the impressive participation of distinguished composers, lyricists and performers active in the field of Greek song, has revealed just how many people love and are willing to support Greek song.
Indeed, these open discussions have proved beyond doubt that Greek song remains utterly central to Greek composers and song writers. Over the 2012-13 season, the Greek Plan followed up these initial events with discussions focused on performance and involving Giorgos Blanas and Giorgos Tsabras. In 2013-14, these discussions/workshops became the “GREEK SONG WORKSHOP” at which Nikos Xydakis, Demos Avdeliodis, Lydia Koniordou and Dimitris Papadimitriou shared their thoughts on the essence of performance and on conveying the content of the song, music and lyric.
In 2014, a discussion will be held on the new Greek Song in the context of the 4th Greek Song Creation Competitions. What fate can new songs expect today? How are songs produced and how are they recorded? How does the public get to hear them? Has the way songs are created been influenced in any significant way by the media in which they are distributed?
