An artist who can surprise you even when you’re expecting to be surprised! Anthony Braxton, one of the most important figures of our times, remains on the cutting edge of contemporary music.
Anthony Braxton isn’t just one of the most important figures of our times; he’s an artist of a magnitude comparable, many say, to Harry Patch and Charles Ives.
A composer, conductor, academic, musicologist, author, leading improviser and idiosyncratic founder of a unique philosophy, Braxton remains on the cutting edge of contemporary music.
Equidistant from the African and European traditions, he pioneered new techniques and perceptions in the wake of the avant-garde of Cage, Stockhausen and Xenakis and the jazz of Marsh, Coltrane and Dolphy.
