The educational program inspired by Nikos Karathanos’ Birds invites the participants to reflect and share with the team and community what concepts such as utopia, coexistence, visibility and life in common mean to them today.

The program is based on the experience of Yolanda Markopoulou in artistic workshops with vulnerable people, in which documentary and fictional elements coexist, starting from the biography of the participants. Prompted by Aristophanes’ vision, as presented by Nikos Karathanos, we are creating a parallel community-empowering educational program where participants will articulate their own views on coexistence in an ideal city today.

Director Yolanda Markopoulou, composer Angelos Triantafyllou, choreographer Amalia Bennett and members of the Brazilian group Passinho Carioca will encourage improvisation through music, movement and dance. Short interviews and experience-based narratives in the form of group activities and games within the workshop will create a safe space for everyone to answer temporal and universal questions around the possibility of the existence of “Cloud Cuckoo Land”, the ideal city according to Aristophanes.

The workshop concludes with a public performance that will be co-shaped by the participants through the liberating power and the Dionysian atmosphere of music and dance.

We would like to thank so much the CARITAS HELLAS Community Center's theater company, operating as part of the METAVASIS Project, for their cooperation.
