Introduction

The second day of Borderline 2023 starts from Kypseli with hip-hop sounds and ends in Liosion Street for a one-of-a-kind heavy metal experience

A free outdoor stage is set up for a second consecutive day at the Municipal Market in the heart of Kypseli. The second day of Borderline celebrates hip hop, bringing voices and beats to the forefront: abrasive hip hop mutations in Blackhaine’s and PÖ’s live sets, the smooth hip hop and R&B of Vikkie, and the exquisite selections of the “Goddess of Rhythm” Karen Nyame KG and local stars Kairo7000, Joseph Mouzakitis, and Odydoze.
As midnight approaches, the second day of Borderline 2023 closes with the clash of metal on metal in Gagarin Live Stage. Witness a performance by industrial pioneers Esplendor Geometrico, the explosive audiovisual show of Slikback and Weirdcore, and the vortex of sounds conjured by the DJ sets of Voltnoi and Morah.

Κairo 7000 & Joseph Mouzakitis

Kairo7000 is an Egyptian creative born and raised in Greece. Staying deeply connected to his Egyptian and Arabic heritage, he consistently brings his roots into his art. His selections are positioned mainly around rap, trap, and drill music, introducing new artists from around the globe.

Joseph Mouzakitis is a DJ based in Athens. He brings a brand new sound out of rap culture, mixing hip hop with afro beats and electronic music from basements to festivals and from festivals to overseas gigs. He is a member of the ATH Kids collective, known for their contemporary creativity, reshaping Athens identity and putting it on the global scene.

Odydoze feat. Spar & Han

Odydoze is a music producer based in Athens, Greece. He has collaborated with respected figures in the Athenian hip hop scene such as Negros Tou Moria, Moose, and Kareem Kalokoh.

Actress, vegetable grower, music producer, vocalist, and DJ, French-Ghanaian artist Pauline Bedarida, aka PÖ, has been a long-time affiliate of the Nyege Nyege crew. Inspired by Nyege Nyege music and the sweat that oozes from the ceiling of packed out clubs, she draws on various afro-mutations from Luanda to Bogota, Accra to Sao Paolo, weaving together forgotten connections on the dancefloor and unlocking bodies for ultimate freedom.

Vikkie

Born and raised in Kallithea, Athens, Vikkie has been a devoted fan of hip hop from a very young age. She began making music when she was 16 years old. She is a member of the production team United By The Beat and in the last four years she has been releasing music with lyrics in English, combining various genres such as hip hop, trap, and R&B, in collaboration with her producer BLK CLD.

Blackhaine

Tom Heyes, professionally known as Blackhaine, is an English experimental musician, rapper, and choreographer. After a promising industrial drill EP with Rainey Miller and a collaboration with conceptual artist Richie Culver, Heyes released “And Salford Falls Apart,” a noisy statement of intent that assures his place in the canon, exploding William S. Burroughs-influenced wordplay into gritty productions that connect the dots between Unknown T and Muslimgauze.

Karen Nyame KG

For nearly a decade, Karen Nyame KG has been an innovative and percussive luminary of dance music. Dubbed as the “Goddess of Rhythm”, KG’s plethora of African polyrhythms, low-end sub-basses, and energetic drum patterns are surefire to showcase the evolving sound of London’s club music hybridity and bounce. Recently tearing the house down at Primavera Sound Festival with her iconic Boiler Room session, and the guest RA’s first ever filmed Exchange, KG has also turned in widely acclaimed mixes for tastemakers including FACT, Dekmantel, Trippin’, as well as radio shows for BBC 1Xtra, NTS, Foundation FM, Worldwide FM, and more.

Voltnoi

Voltnoi Brege is a multimedia artist, founding member of the audiovisual groups drog_A_tek and The Erasers, the cultural center BIOS, and the DETACH art collective. He is the co-artistic director of Movement Radio and Borderline Festival.

Slikback & Weirdcore

At the forefront of the East African electronic underground, Kenyan producer and DJ Slikback is responsible for deploying some of the most futuristic hybrid dance music of recent times. His influences are easily traceable: UK bass music, Jamaican soundsystem styles, US rap, East African dance music, even power electronics and ambient.

Weirdcore is a London-based, half-English, half-French audiovisual artist. His work is the result of years of experimental design and animation work that pushes the boundaries of consciousness and visual interpretation. He has collaborated with some of the most exciting modern artists and directors such as Aphex Twin, M.I.A, Tame, Radiohead, Hype Williams, Charlie XCX, Smerz, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Miley Cyrus.

Esplendor Geometrico

Esplendor Geometrico is a Spanish industrial band. The band was formed in the early 1980s by Arturo Lanz, Gabriel Riaza, and Juan Carlos Sastre. Esplendor Geometrico were especially active in the early-80s international tape scene where they established a rhythmic, experimental electronic sound that foreshadowed the emergence of the powernoise subgenre by over a decade.

Currently performing as a duo although geographically distant from each other, Arturo Lanz (Shanghai) and Saverio Evangelista (Rome) are still active and bringing the name of EG worldwide, not only warmed by the memory of past times, but also for having quietly built an evolution in the band’s sound.

Morah

MORAH is an Athens-based DJ and producer. He runs the Phormix label and event series. He has appeared in numerous venues and festivals in Greece and abroad, and has released in labels such as Berceuse Heroique, Modal Analysis, Vanilla Records, Return To Disorder, and more. His sets cover a wide range of the electronic music spectrum. Vintage synth textures merge with industrial, techno, and electro beats, creating a ritualistic pathway all the way to catharsis.

Workshop by MC Yinka | 15:30 - 17:30

Curatorial Practice in Music Festivals

(Free admission. Pre-booking is required to attend the workshop)

In the context of Borderline 2023, Manolis Afolanio (MC Yinka) will lead a two-day workshop on festival curation. The workshop will touch on all the stages of the development of a festival, from the initial concept to artistic direction and artists selection. Drawing from his experience as a musician, he will expand on his unique approach towards curating: the use of narrative devices, lived experiences, the topological and chronological context, and personal connections with people and their stories as tools for curating a festival.

The "Curatorial Practice in Music Festivals" workshop led by MC Yinka takes place in the framework of “Sounds Now” program, co-funded by the “Creative Europe” program of the European Union.
