Now in its fifth year, the festival on the borderlines brings together some of the most edgy music and interesting names on the international music scene.

Now in its fifth year, the Borderline festival continues to explore the contemporary trends that dominate today’s experimental, acoustic and—above all--electronic music.

More dynamic than ever, this year’s Festival is longer and has a number of surprises up its sleeve among its wide-ranging parallel events, which include lectures, listening sessions, installations and a soundwalk. Applications of cross-cultural and inter-thematic theories and alternative modes of listening are some of the approaches the Festival has set out to develop through actions within and beyond the Onassis Stegi.

Experimentation remains at the epicenter of the event, flanked by improvisation and a willingness to embrace risk and subversion and to challenge listeners and artists alike. Borderline is nourished by the continual search for new forms of expression and sound production which transcend conventional structures, spotlighting contrasting elements which have their roots in sonic deconstruction and the intensity of noise, but also in a quieter and more meditative approach.

Akio Suzuki: "οto-date" – soundwalk | Sunday 8 March | 12:00 and 16:00*

Since the 1960's, the Japanese artist and sound researcher Akio Suzuki has been investigating the sonic qualities of both natural sites and architectural spaces by developing topography of sound. On his soundwalk project, oto-date, which means respectively "sound" and "point" in Japanese, the artist finds listening points in the city, and playfully invites audience to stop and listen carefully at given points on the map. By standing at these locations marked with the characteristic oto-date circular ear symbol, audience become more aware of both the aural and visual landscape, and that gives them the freedom to imagine their city in a new way.

Starting point of the soundwalk “oto-date” by Akio Suzuki: Metaxourgeio Metro Station (exit to Deligianni str.)
The walk takes place at an open-air location. The audience is advised to wear comfortable clothes and shoes, as they will walk for about 1 hour.

Timetable: 12:00 and 16:00
The walk starts exactly at the above mentioned hours. Please be sure that you arrive at the starting point 15 minutes prior to the performance scheduled start time. You can also purchase your ticket at the starting point. Maximum participants 30 person.

*The marked listening spots selected by Akio Suzuki will remain visible after the walk. Use the map to visit them at any time.
