How did a “crazy thought” come to become a performance? What if the people of “Matchbox” didn’t speak but sang instead? What kind of music would they choose? Opera, techno, folk, or maybe all three at once? The documentary “Matchbox: The Musical | Making of between four walls” takes us behind the scenes and into the minds of Yannis Economides, Yiannis Niarros and Alexandros Livitsanos – the people who conceived and co-created a musical for those who hate musicals.
Snapshots from the show’s rehearsals reveal a parallel backstage story that unfolds through melodies, music, lyrics, screams, laughter, hugs, and swears. “Matchbox: The Musical” is an absurdly unthinkable idea that came to life on Stegi’s Main Stage in November 2022.
“Economides’ first three films didn’t even have music, so now the music has taken its revenge. It came back to settle the score.”
