Zacharias Mavroeidis (2020 Iris Award, Best Screenplay, for the film “Defunct”) has selected "Excursion" by Takis Kanellopoulos as one of the Greek films that have inspired his work. The screening is part of the initiative "Open Cinema", a collaboration between Onassis Culture and the Hellenic Film Academy.

Synopsis

The year is 1941. The war is reaching its peak. In a small town near the front line, a lieutenant’s wife and a sergeant fall madly in love. When the lieutenant is injured during a mission and sent to hospital, the two lovers make a risky attempt to escape, the only way they can. An excursion – a path of no return – towards the border.
