The Birds fly off to Movie Theaters

The documentary “Birds (or How To Be One)”, directed by Babis Makridis and produced by Onassis Culture, is screened on movie theaters for the very first time. The film is screened at Cinema Anesis on June 6, 2021 and at Cinema Stella from June 17 to 24, 2021.

The Onassis Foundation supports Greek cinema, unleashing the talent and potential of young filmmakers. Through the production of films, it is pursuing lasting investment in powerful stories, and embracing the creative process, research approaches, and artistic development by offering scholarships and fellowships to artists from the worlds of cinema and the visual arts. Adopting the rallying cry of this year’s “Greek Oscars” – “Every film is an act of rebellion” – the Onassis Foundation is leading its own cinema revolution. The Onassis Culture co-production “Ballad for a Pierced Heart” by Yannis Economides has been nominated in every possible category – fifteen in total – while the Onassis Foundation production “Birds (or How To Be One)” by Babis Makridis has also been nominated in two categories.

The Academy voting process will decide the final winners, to be announced at the 12th “IRIS” Awards Ceremony, scheduled to be held live and in person in early summer 2021.

Through filmmaking, it timelessly invests in powerful stories. It embraces the processes of creation, research and artistic development by offering fellowships to creative professionals in the fields of cinema and the visual arts. The linking of Athens with Los Angeles and New York – through the activities of Onassis USA – creates a site of experimentation, inspiration and encounter across physical borders. The Onassis Foundation looks to the future of cinema and becomes an active part of new artistic production.
