Vassilios Papalois
Vassilios Papalois is Professor of Transplantation Surgery at Imperial College, London, UK. He leads transplant programmes of excellence focusing on high risk and extended criteria kidney and pancreas transplantation. His research focuses mainly on pre-transplant assessment and reconditioning of marginal kidney and pancreas grafts. He is the President of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) representing 40 countries and 1.6 million medical specialists, the President of the European Society of Organ Transplantation (ESOT), Member of the Executive Board of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI) and Editor in Chief of the World Journal of Transplantation (WJT). Professor Papalois has given more than 150 lectures in international forums as an invited speaker and has been a Visiting Professor in many European universities. He has been awarded a Silver National Award for Clinical Excellence by the UK Department of the Health, a Senior Clinical Investigator Award by ESOT and a Teaching Excellence Award by Imperial College. Professor Papalois is the Deputy non-Executive President of the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center.
