Thomas Wrede was born in 1963 in Iserlohn, Germany. He studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Münster (1986-1992). Since 2015 he is a Professor of Photography and Media Art at the University of Fine Arts Essen. For the past years, the vantage point of his photography has always begun with a deep emotional need to be linked with nature. His current project deals with the packed glaciers in the Alps, which was presented at the Vienna Biennale 2021 (MAK). Since 1991 he has presented his works in Germany and internationally. His overview exhibitions “Sceneries” at the Von der Heydt-Kunsthalle Wuppertal (2018) should be mentioned as well as the group exhibitions at the National Museum for History and Art, Luxembourg (2013), the Seoul Museum of Art, South Korea (2011), the Art Museum, Wuhan, China (2009), and at the Akademie der Künste Berlin (“Vertigo of Reality,” 2014).
