Stella Ioannidou
Bio
Stella Ioannidou is an artist, designer, and researcher based in Νew York and Αthens. She works in-between and within the fields of architectural and urban research, of critical cartography, of visual experimentation, and of writing.
Stella holds a M.S. in Civil Engineering from The National Technical University of Αthens (NTUA) and a Master of Architecture from the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) at Columbia University.
In her professional work as an urban researcher and designer, as well as in her personal research and artistic practice, she has been exploring ways in which to analyze and reflect on existing systems of governance, economy, and infrastructure. Within the architectural discipline, she has focused on the socio-spatial dimensions of the field and its role in reproducing conditions of injustice.
She has worked for and collaborated with the Center for Spatial Research, Visualizing Palestine, rePLACE Urban Studio, Urban League of Essex County, and NHDM. Her work has been published and exhibited at Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto, the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations (Mucem), the Venice Architecture Biennale 2021, the Arko Art Center, the 2019 Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism, the Oslo Architecture Triennale 2016, the Storefront for Art and Architecture, Urban Magazine, The Funambulist Magazine, and Urban Omnibus. She received the William Kinne Traveling Prize for her project “Visualizing Naqab”, and has participated in artistic residencies at Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto, among others.
In her personal practice, she experiments with the flexibility of story-making, creative technology, and artistic intervention. She works to imagine future landscapes, to draw out perspectives on new worlds and belonging, to find connections and possibilities of solidarity.
Stella Ioannidou is a participant of The School of Infinite Rehearsals of Οnassis AiR 2021-22 and of the Tailor-made Fellowships program 2022-23.
