Petros Markaris
Petros Markaris is a novelist, playwright, screenwriter and translator. Born in Istanbul, he studied economics and since 1976 he works as a freelance writer. His detective novels, such as “The Late-Night News” (US title “Deadline in Athens”), “Zone Defense,” “Che Committed Suicide,” “Main Shareholder,” “Earlier, Much Earlier,” “Expiring Loans,” have been published in fourteen languages, while his main character, the detective Costas Haritos, is one of the most popular across the crime novel genre in Europe. He collaborated with the renowned filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos on several of his film scripts. He has also translated in Greek works by Bertolt Brecht, Frank Wedekind, Arthur Schnitzler and, most recently, Goethe’s “Faust” (parts I and II).
