Orestis Mavroudis
Orestis Mavroudis’s artistic practice aligns with the principles of the economy of means, focusing on the alteration and displacement of pre-existing objects, images, and texts. Through a variety of media, including cutouts, installations, interventions, and videos, he aims to explore the feasibility of creating with the fewest resources possible, taking a critical stance towards the means employed in the production and presentation of an artwork.
Mavroudis studied History and Theory of Art at the University of Ioannina and at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan. He holds a Master of Arts in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies from the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan and a Post-Master of Public Interest from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, and he has also completed the CuratorLab program at Konstfack University of Arts in Stockholm. He has been awarded the Grant for Architecture (Royal Institute of Art, 2021), the ARTWORKS Fellowship (Stavros Niarchos Foundation, 2018), and the Onassis Scholarship (Onassis Foundation, 2013–2015). In 2017, he co-founded CURRENT Athens with Despina Krey, an online platform for the non-hierarchical promotion of contemporary art. He is the founder of the artist-run space CLOSING SOON.
Orestis Mavroudis is a participant of the Tailor-Made Residencies program of Onassis AiR for 2023-24.
