Lakis & Aris Ionas / The Callas

The Callas are Lakis & Aris Ionas. Their transdisciplinary work, in a creative collaboration with family members, friends, and local shepherds, consistently fuses traditional weaving techniques, painting, music, sculpture, and performance alongside The Callasettes troupe. Their work has been exhibited at the New Museum (New York/Benaki Athens), Palais de Tokyo (Paris), the Athens Biennial, Kustera Projects (New York), documenta 14, the DESTE Foundation, Yinka Shonibare’s space (London), Dio Horia Gallery (Athens), and Onassis Stegi (Athens). The Callas have directed four feature films and produced music albums and performances with Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth and Jim Sclavunos of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds.
