Krzysztof Garbaczewski

Krzysztof Garbaczewski studied directing at the State Higer School of Theatre (PWST) in Kraków. As an assistant to Krystian Lupa, he worked on the productions of "Zaratustra" (2005) and "Factory 2" (2008) in National Stary Theatre in Kraków.

Garbaczewski made his debut with the staging of Jelinek’s Sports Choir at the Opole Theatre. He directed "The Possessed" based on Gombrowicz (2008), "The Star of Death" inspired by "Star Wars" (2010) at the Jerzy Szaniawski Theatre in Wałbrzych, "Nirwana" inspired by "Tibetan Book of the Dead" (2009), Dostoevsky’s "Demons" (2010) at the Polski Theatre in Wrocław), "Odyssey" based on Homer (2009), Witold Gombrowicz's "Yvonne, princesse de Bourgogne" (2011) at the Opole Theatre, "The sexual life of Savages" (2011) inspired by Malinowski at the Nowy Theatre in Warsaw.

Considered one of the most interesting young Polish theatre directors, his works have been presented in Polish and international theater festivals. In 2009, he received an award for directing the production of "The Possessed" at the 34th "Polish Classics” Opole Theatre Confrontations Festival. The same work received an honourable mention at the 4th National Competition for Theatre Staging of Early Works of European Literature and in 2010, his "Odyssey" won the main prize at the “mteatr” 1st Koszalin Confrontations of the Young. In the same year, Krzysztof Garbaczewski was also awarded in the competition “Talents of Radio Three” in the Theatre category. During the III International Theatre Festival "Divine comedy" in Kraków Krzysztof Garbaczewski was awarded for the best direction and set design ("Odyssey", 2010). During the V International Theatre Festival "Divine comedy" Krzysztof Garbaczewski was awarded for set design and the best visual effects ("Yvonne, princesse de Bourgogne", 2012).
