Hassan Madjooni

Hassan Madjooni is a theater director, actor, stage designer, University Professor and founder of the Leev Theater Group. He has staged various plays from well-known international playwrights, such as Anton Chekov or Shakespeare, along with well-known Iranian ones.

As a director, he has won various awards for his works.

As an actor, Hassan Madjooni works with director Amir Reza Koohestani (“Amid the Clouds”, 2006, and “Quartet: A Journey North”, 2007); both plays staged successfully in Europe and has won the acting award at the Zürcher Theater Spektakel Festival in 2005, for his performance in “Amid the Clouds”.

In addition to teaching at the Art University of Tehran, he has led different acting and directing workshops in Iran.

In 2010, the Critics Association of Iran’s Theater House awarded him as the “Best Theater Director of the Year” for his play For a Fistful of Rubles.

His recent works “Seagull” and “Uncle Vanya” by Anton Chekhov are being staged simultaneously in Iranshahr Hall in Tehran, since February 2011.

In Autumn 2011, he will join the cast of next Amir Reza Koohestani’s production, adaptation of “Ivanov” by Anton Chekhov.
