Harry Isra Muhammad

Harry Isra Muhammad (b. 1993) is a researcher and editor at Jalur Timur, an independent collaborative organization that focusses its praxis on contemporary art and cultural activism in Eastern Indonesia and beyond.
Growing up in Palopo, South Sulawesi, he studied English Literature at Hasanuddin University, Makassar. He received his MA in Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London in 2020 with a scholarship from the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP). With some of his friends, he also co-founded “The Conjuncture”, a digital cultural publication focusing on the intersection between culture and broader social phenomena.
Harry’s research interest is on the intersection between literature, art, locality, and its ecosystem, especially in Eastern Indonesia. In 2017, he won the Jakarta Literary Criticism Competition and was invited at the Jakarta International Literary Festival in 2020. In the same year, to make it more accessible to a wider public, he co-edited Lontara’ Duri —an old manuscript and epic about Duri people, Enrekang, South Sulawesi, which was compiled and transliterated by Prof. Syukur Abdullah in 1985-1986.
Harry Isra Muhammad is a participant of The School of Infinite Rehearsals of Οnassis AiR 2021-22 and of the Tailor-made Fellowships program 2022-23.
