Elena Kakaliagou

Elena Kakaliagou began her musical journey at the Volos Conservatory, and was exposed to traditional Greek music influences by her family. Passing through Athens, Graz (Austria), and Helsinki (Finland) for her academic studies in French horn and contemporary music, she chose to make Berlin her base in 2010. She has performed at festivals across the world as a guest artist with such contemporary music ensembles as KNM and Linea, as well as with her personal/ongoing projects and groups Zinc & Copper, P.O.P. (Psychology of Perception), zeitkratzer, and Nabelóse.

Her discography now comprises more than 20 albums, influenced mainly by drone music, microtonality, soundscapes, and musical lyricism. Her appearances as part of theater productions, performance works, and solo concerts have set her apart as one of the most important voices active in improvisational and contemporary music today.
