Dimitris Karagiannis
Dimitris Karagiannis is a child psychiatrist and psychotherapist and holds a PhD from the Democritus University of Thrace. He is Assistant Professor in Frederick University of Nicosia, Cyprus, teaching Family Therapy and he is also a lecturer in numerous post-graduate study programs on mental health.
Dr. Dimitris Karagiannis is NHS Director of the Center for Child Mental Health (1986 - present), a modern child psychiatry multidisciplinary unit, seeing 6000 new cases annually.
He is a founding member and first General Secretary of the Child Psychiatric Society of Greece as well as a founding member and former General Secretary of the Hellenic Association for Systemic Therapy (ELESYTH). He is President of the Hellenic Federation for Systemic and Family Therapy (ETHOS) and a member of the European Family Therapy Association (EFTA). He was a member of the National Council of Public Health (ESYDY) for Psychiatry, as well as a Board member of KETHEA (Therapy Center for Dependent Individuals).
Along with his wife, Eleni Karagianni, he co-founded and is the Scientific Director of the “Antistixi” therapeutic and training institute, where mental health specialists are trained to become family and group therapy psychotherapists following the existential and systemic approach. He has a special interest in marriage problems and studies the terms of functioning interpersonal relationships.
He is acknowledged author of important psychological books and essays, such as: «Ρωγμές και Αγγίγματα» ("Cracks and Touches") (11th edition), «Η αδικία που πληγώνει» (“The Injustice that hurts") (29th edition), «Έρωτας ή τίποτα» ("Love or nothing") (19th edition), «Αλλάζει ο Άνθρωπος»; ("Do people Change?") (18th edition), while some of his articles have been published in Greek and international journals.
