Aris Kaplanidis
Aris Kaplanidis studied illustration at the Ornerakis Applied Arts Center. His first short film, “Tsonta” (‘Inert,’ 2007), earned him a scholarship to study directing at the Hellenic Cinema and Television School Stavrakos.
His graduation film, “Same Old Blues” (2010), was selected for the Drama International Short Film Festival (DISFF).
Between 2002 and 2024, he directed twelve films, including the feature-length “A Gospel According to Life” (2015). Kaplanidis has also directed several sketches for the comedy ensemble “Mourga,” which was part of the ComedyLab network during its active years.
For television, he has directed 23 music videos and several commercials and has worked as an editor for shows on ANT1, MEGA, SKAI, and ATTICA TV. He also worked as a dialogue writer on the ANT1 TV series “Classmates.”
In 2017, he received the 1st Pitching Award at DISFF for the animated short “From the Balcony,” produced by Ioanna Soultani (Soul Productions). The film premiered at the Sarajevo Film Festival and has since won 22 awards, including the Iris Award for Best Animated Film by the Hellenic Film Academy.
Since 2020, together with Ilias Roumeliotis, he has been exclusively involved in animated fiction for film, television, and the internet, working as an animator, screenwriter, and director at BrosInArts Animation Studios (www.brosinarts.com). They also conduct animation workshops for high school students in collaboration with the Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People.
He is currently working as a screenwriter, director, and animator on the animated feature documentary “Women of Asia Minor,” produced by Ioanna Soultani (Soul Productions), co-produced by the Greek Film Centre, ERT, and the Ministry of Culture of Cyprus, in collaboration with the Centre for Asia Minor Studies.
