We meet the future

A new TIFF initiative turns its gaze to the future of cinema. The new “Meet the Future” section, inaugurated at the 60th Anniversary of the Festival, is a collaboration between TIFF and the Onassis Foundation (7-8 November).The "Meet the Future" presents 15 directors of Greek films, whose short films have been selected in the past five years for the programmes of the most important Film Festivals worldwide (Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Locarno, Karlovy Vary, San Sebastián, London, Rotterdam, New York, Tribeca, Toronto, Sundance, Busan) or been nominated for the Academy Awards, but who have not yet made their first feature film. The directors presented their debut feature film projects in development at the 60th Thessaloniki International Film Festival Agora.As announced by Afroditi Panagiotakou, Director of Culture at the Onassis Foundation, two young directors, participating in the program, will become Onassis Fellows in New York and Los Angeles, and will have the chance to cultivate further their talent and ideas, within the process of developing their first feature film. The selection process will take place in the next few months. Onassis Foundation supports daring new voices of the greek film industry and highlights powerful stories which opt for provocation, challenging, and emotion.

Vasilis Kekatos, winner of the Golden Palm for Best Short Film, for "The Distance Between Us and the Sky" was assigned to direct the 60th Thessaloniki International Film Festival’s spots, produced by Eleni Kossyfidou and in collaboration with the Onassis Foundation.
