Two Onassis Stegi productions at the 57th Dimitria Festival

The “Halepas” we met last February on the Onassis Stegi Main Stage, directed by Argyro Chioti and with a libretto by The Boy, and “Stones & Bones” by RootlessRoot, which premiered in November 2021, are both being presented as part of the 57th Dimitria Festival, with the support of the “Outward Turn” program.

Two Onassis Stegi productions are coming in to land at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall. “Halepas”, directed by Argyro Chioti and with a libretto by The Boy, is being presented at the Dimitria Festival for two performances, on October 6 and 7, 2022. Travelling with them is “Stones & Bones” by RootlessRoot, a work on the transience of human existence, to be performed on Wednesday, October 19 following the completion of its international tour across the stages of Europe. Both works are to be presented inside the Emilios Riadis Hall (M2) at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall.

“Halepas” at a glance

A dive into the depths of an artistic genius. Yanoulis Halepas, that ascetic figure of Greek sculpture – whom some called “the Rodin of Greece”, others “a saint, a madman, a genius, an artist cursed” – encounters the gaze of Argyro Chioti and the written word of The Boy. A contemporary musical tragedy that walks us down the sculptor’s path, between silence and the absurd, inaction and creation.

This presentation of “Halepas” at the Dimitria Festival is being realized in partnership with, and supported by Onassis Stegi as part of its “Outward Turn” Cultural Export Program.

The performance is to be presented with English surtitles.

“Stones & Bones” – on the transience of human existence

RootlessRoot worked with the English sculptor Peter Randall-Page to create “Stones & Bones”. White marble – a material with metaphysical dimensions that constitutes the bedrock of European civilization – lies at the core of the work, even though its natural place lies inside majestic mountains, far outside theater convention. Four female performers – dancing to an original score by Vassilis Mantzoukis – carve out this poem of a performance.

The “Stones & Bones” tour is being supported by the Onassis Stegi “Outward Turn” Cultural Export Program, and sponsored by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports.
