The Onassis Foundation delivered today to the State the National Plan for Solid Organ Donation and Transplantation, a report elaborated by a research team of Greek and foreign scientists from the London School of Economics and the Imperial College London, led by Professors Elias Mossialos and Vassilios Papalois. A long-term need of the National Health System is now met, marking a new start for organ donation and transplantation in our country.

A two-year effort has reached its end. In 2019, the Onassis Foundation assigned the elaboration of a report on the National Plan for Solid Organ Donation and Transplantation in Greece. Two years later, on July 6, 2021, this National Plan report is ready and delivered to the State. It is a pioneering scientific piece of work at a global level, an outstanding and comprehensive report that can become the road map for transplantations in Greece in the following years. For a new beginning in transplantations; to save even more lives.

This set of recommendations is a breakthrough which will provide hope to thousands of our fellow citizens suffering from end-stage liver, heart and pulmonary disease and living day-by-day in fear and anxiety expecting a transplant
