Sunday matinée at Onassis Stegi

Every Sunday, we head to the Onassis Stegi to see performances from early on.

Give up your typical Sunday whereabouts and treat yourself to something completely different: this season, the Onassis Stegi brings theater closer to our lives with midday and afternoon performances.

matinée (n), French: a film shown or a play performed during the day, especially in the afternoon

Every Sunday, performances begin at 14:00 on the Onassis Stegi Main Stage and 17:00 on the Upper Stage. Sundays now carry the promise of a whole new and unique experience at the Onassis Stegi, with exclusively matinée performances of works such as “Lovers’ Choir,” directed by Tiago Rodrigues at the Upper Stage, and “Oxygen,” directed by Giorgos Koutlis, “MAMI,” directed by Mario Banushi, “Bérénice” by Romeo Castellucci, and “My Fierce Ignorant Step” (working title) directed by Christos Papadopoulos, all at the Main Stage.

For an enhanced watching experience, you could have a small lunch or drink at the Onassis Stegi before or after the play.

The showtime of our performances changes. And so do the performances themselves every Sunday.

Sunday: one word, a thousand thoughts, and a handful of habits.

Me, waking up with Monday hanging like a black cloud above me, not wanting to join another Sunday lunch with dear or less dear relatives, loathing wasting my day by doing something I’m used to doing, such as lying on my sofa, not arranging to go for a drink after 20:00 “cuz it’s late.” All this comes to a halt as Onassis Stegi brings forth its matinée performances and all the above begin to somehow change, just like our habits.
