Onassis Stegi Outward Turn Program: November – December 2023

From the stages of Onassis Stegi to every corner of the globe, the DissonArt ensemble, Ioanna Paraskevopoulou, Chara Kotsali, Christos Papadopoulos, and over 40 acclaimed artists within the context of a collective exhibition delving into themes of weather, the environment, and technological culture, carry their creations on a worldwide journey, supported by the Onassis Stegi's "Outward Turn" program.

In Gijón we discuss climate justice

“Weather Engines”, the exhibition on the politics and poetics of the environment, curated by Daphne Dragona & Jussi Parikka, continues to pose critical questions about the weather, the environment, and technological culture, traveling from the Onassis Stegi to LABoral Centro de Arte in Gijón. Titled “Motores del clima”, the exhibition includes works presented at Onassis Stegi alongside new commissions to Spanish artists: installations, photographs, videos, sound works, and sculptures – from the ground to the sky, and from the soil to the atmosphere. The exhibition continues until May 25, 2024.

DissonArt ensemble composes a musical journey in Nicosia

At the invitation of the Union of Cypriot Composers, the dissonArt ensemble will perform at the 12th Cyprus New Music Festival organized by the Center of Cypriot Composers in Nicosia on November 7. The musical ensemble from Thessaloniki, which follows a flexible internal structure modelled after similar contemporary orchestral groups, will appear this time in Cyprus with a larger line-up: flute, clarinet, piano, percussion, violin, viola, cello, and double bass.

Four new art destinations for MOS

Having received rave reviews upon its presentation at the Barbican in London as part of the Dance Umbrella Festival, Ioanna Paraskevopoulou’s MOS continues to conquer the stages of Europe’s biggest dance festivals. Upcoming stops include the National Center for Dance Bucharest on November 8, the International Dance Theatres Festival in Lublin, Poland on November 10, and the Ménagerie de verre in Paris from November 30 to December 2.

MOS is a duet in which the choreographer and her co-dancer, Georgios Kotsifakis, interact with cinematic images seemingly unrelated to each other, while attempting to imbue the space with their own transcription. On February 24, it will return to Onassis Stegi, where it all began, for only a few “collectible” nights.

Chara Kotsali and her demons take over Leipzig

After her participation in the ImPulsTanz Festival in Vienna and the Mill of Performing Arts Festival (MPART) in Larissa, Greece, choreographer and dancer Chara Kotsali presents the piece “to be possessed” – along with its demons – at the euro-scene Leipzig festival on November 10 and 11. By means of a disarticulated stage ritual, the dancer and choreographer Chara Kotsali engages in a new attempt to trace the phenomenon of spirit possession, for which most of those accused were women, in a performance alluding to a rehearsal possession.

The glacier piece lands in Ljubljana

Christos Papadopoulos with “Larsen C” travels to the CoFestival in Ljubljana on 23 November, already closing two years of successful touring, which will continue through 2024. Christos Papadopoulos becomes again an observer of minimum movement that, in its interiority and repetition, produces life. “Larsen C” is a party-homage to the silent transition of bodies. It is “a metaphor”, comments the choreographer himself, “of life that, invincible, goes on”.

The tours of Onassis Stegi’s productions are realized with the support of the “Outward Turn” program.
