Movement Radio – coming to you live from the Municipal Market of Kypseli on May 7 & 8
A weekend devoted to the immigrant and refugee communities of Athens
On Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8, Movement Radio – Onassis Stegi’s online radio station – presents “Mediterranean Futures: Communities – Creating the Collective Body” celebrating diversity, unity, and solidarity, with free entrance.
This two-day event exploring the power of networks, and of the movement of people, sounds, and ideas is coming to the Municipal Market of Kypseli and bringing the city’s immigrant and refugee communities to the fore. DJ and live sets, talks, an interactive game for children, traditional dances, unique flavors, and many more surprises await, all curated by Voltnoi & Quetempo.
Taking “Creating the Collective Body” as its foundational concept, this two-day event seeks to create networks and connections between individuals and communities, to change the narrative surrounding citizenship, free movement, and migration, to create a meeting point and space for dialogue, and to promote solidarity through the stories, sounds, and voices we share.
The event features a panel will present the communities’ radio shows on Movement Radio, with the participation of the Ivorian Community of Greece, Anasa Cultural Center, the Congolese Community of Congo Brazzaville In Greece, the Syrian Greek Youth Forum, FixUp TV & Afrobeat Athens and the Burkina Faso Community of Greece. Those participants will also discuss the concept of ‘Creating The Collective Body’.
London-based artist and KISS FM, NTS and Movement Radio resident Tash LC will close the first day with her diverse, fresh selections. Turin-based Dominican producer Kelman Duran will bring his unique take on reggaeton and other Latin American genres, closing the second day of the event. During both days, there will also be music by Afrobeat Athens members Dj Prolifik & Loongab and Movement Radio resident Kairo, dabke dances performed by the Syrian Greek Youth Forum and live MC sets by Serge Bowl and Francis ‘Ofili’ Adetokunbo.
ANASA Cultural Centre and the students of the 30th Primary School of Kypseli will present an interactive game based on the art practice workshops they organized and participated in during the course of the previous year.
