“ENA ENA” by Thanasis Deligiannis & I/O sets up a show with Greek “klarina” in the Netherlands
A band, a female singer, a waiter, and a security camera bring life to the stages of the Netherlands, inspired by the Greek provinces. “ENA ENA” by Thanasis Deligiannis & I/O travels to Utrecht, Amsterdam, and the Hague, with the support of the Onassis Cultural Export program.

From the Onassis Stegi to the stages of the Netherlands. “ENA ENA” is the name of an imaginary Greek provincial nightclub. Literally meaning “one by one,” it reminds us of the phrases “step by step,” “bit by bit,” “piece by piece.” The uncanny traditional party by Thanasis Deligiannis & I/O, which was presented at the Exhibition Hall -1 of the Onassis Stegi in November 2021, sets off for a tour in the Netherlands, starting with the Gaudeamus Festival 2022, at the Theater Kikker in Utrecht. The international Greek musician of the younger generation once again sets up a Greek traditional party from the ’80s, filling the stage with retsina, beer, plastic chairs, klarina (folk clarinets), and electronic music. Their next stops are Muziekgebouw, Amsterdam, on September 10 and 11, and Korzo Τheater, the Hague, on September 15.
The tour of “ENA ENA” is supported by the Onassis Cultural Export program.
How often do we get to sit at tables for four on theater stages across the world?
“ENA ENA” deals with surfaces of memories. A band, a female singer, a waiter, and a security camera give life to the world of the performance, interacting with each other and the audience. The music is a microtonal amalgam of the Greek ’70s to ’90s culture of “klarina,” blended with improvised parts, electronic music, and field recordings, while making use of the heavily “amplified” aesthetics of that era—an uncanny “panegyri,” the Greek traditional country fair.
