In times that plunge us ever deeper into worlds offered up by screens, the Onassis Foundation is encouraging everyone to try something different this August: let’s all switch off our screens a while, give our eyes a rest, and listen in only to the things we love.
Headphones on or off, volume loud or low: however you like it, listen to music of all kinds from around the world, to discussions about society today, to philosophers ever relevant to the here and now of our lives, and to myths and legends live from the gods of Mount Olympus – whether you’re trekking across the city, leaving the apartment blocks far behind as you journey to the islands, or ambling your way from your beach towel by the sea to a taverna table shaded by plane trees.
Thanks to the Onassis Channel on YouTube, Onassis Podcasts, STAGES A/LIVE, and Movement Radio (Onassis Stegi’s online station), all the sounds and music, concerts and discussions of the Onassis Foundation are free to be enjoyed by everyone, wherever they may be – at home or on holiday – without the need to be glued to screens. Let’s all get a little closer inside a wonderful world: the Onassis Cosmos.
The Onassis Foundation of course still offers a broad range of productions and video materials – theatrical premieres, contemporary dance pieces, hybrid performances, filmed concerts, talks by bold individuals, and much more – that can all be watched for free, 24/7, on the Onassis Channel on YouTube. This summer – a time when we want to enjoy everything we’ve feared these last few years – let’s shut our screens a while and open our eyes instead to the world and nature and others, or else close our eyes a little to be transported into everything we’ve dreamed and imagined, into all we remember.
The Onassis Foundation’s new summer campaign – “Summer Is On” – embraces the idea that summer is a time filled with wonderful screen-free moments, inviting us all to slip on our headphones, turn up the volume, and take a deep dive – alone or with others – into recorded philosophy talks and live gigs, music playlists and myths.Plásmata: Movement Radio Live
