We invite scientists, specialists and academics, to a seminar about Sexuality Education in schools. So that young people can grow in an educational system that understands them.
In the Onassis Foundation, we present actions and initiate discussions about all those important issues that highlight and promote the concept of an inclusive society – regardless of gender, nationality, gender identity , religion, sexuality, place of origin and socioeconomic status.
We initiate a big discussion about Sexuality Education and showcase the significance of including Sexuality Education as a subject in the curriculum of the primary and secondary education in Greece. So that children and young people can learn how to healthily enjoy their sexuality and to feel safe in the relationships they create.
A day dedicated to Sexuality Education
How many things do children and teenagers know about their bodies? About their gender? Their sex? How many of the things they know come from a reliable source of information? Neglecting information on children’s sexuality education, we don’t deal with an issue that follows and concerns an individual throughout his/her life. Sexuality is a central and essential element of the human condition in the course of our lives. Providing knowledge about the emotional, social, interactive and physical aspects of sexuality, Sexuality Education starts early in childhood and progresses through adolescence and adulthood.
Scientists, academics, authors, sociologists, family therapists, teachers in primary and secondary education and representatives of the World Association for Sexual Health, the UNESCO Education Sector – Against School Violence and Cyber Bullying, Amnesty International Greece, the Greek Association of People Living with HIV “Positive Voice”, Homo Evolution, Athens Pride, “Center for Life”, “Rainbow School”, “Topos Psychotherapeias” and the Organization Against Drugs (ΟΚΑΝΑ), speak at Stegi in a day dedicated to Sexuality Education.

Let’s stop talking about bees
Sexuality Education aims to develop and strengthen the ability of children and young people to make conscious, satisfying, healthy and respectful choices regarding relationships, sexuality and emotional and physical health. Sexuality education does not encourage children and young people to have sex.
Learning about the cognitive emotional, social, interactive and physical aspects of sexuality. Sexuality education starts early in childhood and progresses through adolescence and adulthood. For children and young people, it aims at supporting and protecting sexual development.
It gradually equips and empowers children and young people with information, skills and positive values to understand and enjoy their sexuality, have safe and fulfilling relationships and take responsibility for their own and other people’s sexual health and well-being. Good quality sexuality education has a positive impact on attitudes and values and can even out the power dynamics in intimate relationships, thus contributing to the prevention of abuse and fostering mutually respectful and consensual partnerships.
