Our historic library –which houses thousands of rare books and archival documents– is being made a modern laboratory hosting four interactive workshops where you can learn the secrets and history of the book as an art form. Featuring new technologies and traditional arts, with artists and scientists sharing the depth of their experience when it comes to libraries, the past, and books, all of which are used as a chance to create new things.

If you like travelling back in time, or you know new technologies like the back of your hand, or you’re the artistic type, or you’re interested in making and in handicrafts, then these four workshops are perfect for you, and for your entire class too.

Taking the book and everything to be found in among its pages and covers –the paper and ink and thread– as their vehicle and guide, these workshops reveal secrets passed down through the centuries, just waiting to be discovered and made yours in ways that are modern, interactive, and fun.

Uncover a story that cannot be read, and arts that go unseen. Experiment with digital fabrication machines, with augmented reality apps and design tools, to realize your original ideas. Create and embellish, learn to engrave, to bind, and to conserve, and give the world of books the chance to carry you away – digitally too.
