Introduction
The latest chapter of our popular “Musical Fairytales for Narrator and Orchestra” series brings us newly commissioned works inspired by myth, folklore, or characters from the Greek Carnival traditions.
Our popular “Musical Fairytales” series goes on, this time drawing inspiration from myths, folklore, and characters and symbols from the Greek carnival.
This year, the HELLENIC PROJECT presents two new musical carnival tales for narrator and orchestra in two concerts.
The first tale, “The Rooster in the Carnival”, is composed by Aggelos Aggelou, written by Kostas Fasoulas and narrated by Lefteris Eleftheriou. A rooster who is a craftsman, smart and mischievous, sporting a prophet’s beard and carrying a sack of carnival tools on his back, responds generously to the wishes of his friends, who seek to live his carnival dream, even briefly.
The second tale, “Carnival Spell”, is composed by Tassos Rosopoulos and written and narrated by the FLOU Theater Company. The Carnival Witch is tormented by the inhabitants of Miravilioza, because her favourite musical instrument, the tuba, provokes the villagers’ contempt and ironic comments. To cope with her suffering, the witch invents a magic spell.
Narrators and orchestra bring the two musical tales into life, in a special stage environment conceived and directed by the renowned Paris Mexis, in collaboration with George Tellos in lighting design.
