German Pavilion, 58th Venice Biennale 2019

At the heart of the installation titled “Ankersentrum (surviving in the ruinous ruin)” [“asylum seekers welcome center”], presented inside the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2019, was the sound installation “Tribute to Whistle”. A polyphonic installation for which Natascha Süder Happelmann commissioned six musicians and composers to write works for whistle that form part of a multi-channel installation with 48 speakers.

“Ankersentrum” will be presented in Athens as a sound station/installation with:

  • videos produced by Natascha Süder Happelmann for the 58th Venice Biennale, which form an inseparable part of her artistic output for the German Pavilion;
  • a 48-channel sound installation comprising six compositions, as recorded on 33 rpm vinyl, and presenting the work of Jessica Ekomane, Maurice Louca, DJ Marfox, Jako Maron, Tisha Mukarji and Elnaz Seyedi; and
  • texts from the book created to accompany the German Pavilion.

More information on “Ankersentrum (surviving in the ruinous ruin)” is available on the website of the German Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale 2019.
