Jack DeJohnette is one of the leading exponents of the jazz drum-set, a member of the Roy Haynes/ Elvin Jones/ Tony Williams school which dominated the postbop era. A legendary drummer, he has been making significant contributions to his art since the nineteen sixties as a musician, a performer in a multitude of styles, a band leader and even as a pianist!

His collaborations are the stuff of jazz history. Having made a name for himself with the “almost psychedelic” Charles Lloyd quartet, where he first met Keith Jarrett, he went on to form the Standards Trio with Jarrett and Gary Peacock which has been breaking new ground for three decades.

DeJohnette has always been eclectic: with the confidence that comes with familiarity, he has embraced —and creatively remolded— elements of r&b, rock, funk, Afro-Hispanic music and even free-jazz. He has played in important combos, making music alongside such legends as Lester Bowie, Alex Foster, Bob Moses, Chico Freeman, John Abercrombie, John Scofield and Bill Evans, as well as playing on Miles Davis’ revolutionary jazz-rock fusion album, “Bitches Brew”.

He has garnered numerous awards, including a Grammy, while his ventures into New Age and World music have been ecstatically received, especially over the last three years at festivals including London and Montreux.

Now aged 69, he is still as energetic and curious as ever. He formed a new group at the start of 2010 with Rudresh Mahanthappa on alto sax, David Fiuczynski on guitar, George Colligan on piano and keyboards, and his friend and long-term collaborator Jerome Harris on bass, playing standards from a recording career spanning 45 years and his recent “Music We Are album” (Golden Beams, 2009) which he recorded with Danilo Perez and John Patitucci. At this tour, DeJohnette group features a special guest, Ravi Coltrane on saxophone.
