“And the award for best film goes to...”. The night of the Greek Oscars, here at the Onassis Stegi.
Onassis Stegi: a home for film, too.
Numerous respected Greek film-makers have been Onassis Foundation scholars at one time or another since 1975. Onassis Stegi’s relationship with film is multifaceted: it has consistently supported the education of young people in film, it screens premières, and it hosts festivals with a focus on animation and experimental sound.
Its collaboration with the Greek Film Academy is another aspect of this relationship. “And the award for best film goes to...” Every year, one of the most enjoyable evenings in the Onassis Stegi calendar ends with these words. It’s the night of the Greek Film Academy awards, the night dedicated to the Greek film making family, which has been a fixture at the Onassis Stegi for many years now.
But the awards are just one example of the close relationship which Onassis Stegi cultivates with film (not only, but especially, Greek cinema)--a relationship which grows ever closer and which is set to evolve and grow still further in the years to come. The Stegi’s various film-related activities include screenings and discussions, festivals and mini-conferences—activities aimed both at the public and at film professionals.
