"Can experimental artistic practices shine a light on the multiple, heterogeneous aspects of the city? Can participatory art articulate a critical approach to the mechanisms employed to control public opinion? Does the contemporary independent scene have the power to help do away with social stereotypes and urban myths? Can the performing arts intervene in run-down neighborhoods without feeding into the forces driving its decline? Can public art help bring the society of citizens together?
The 2nd Fast Forward Festival explores the dialectical relationship between multimedia, hybrid artistic practices and public and private space. Unconventional performances slip noiselessly into the urban fabric intent not on making some noisy intervention, but rather on respectfully impacting on the public discourse and helping us ‘see’ art and the city from a new point of view. Together, both internationally respected and up-and-coming practitioners from across the arts trace the concept of community as an alternative to the dominant individualist way of life.
Working in the borderlands between film, performance, social choreography, visual installation and documentary theatre, the artists and groups of the 2nd FFF incorporate new technologies into their critical practice and bring to light existing or possible modes of coexistence in our contemporary, media-mediated urban landscape."
