“Flix it at the Onassis Stegi” says goodbye to this cinematic season and welcomes the summer with open-air cinema. A trip toward the sea and the sun which stops time.

On Wednesday 7 June, on the rooftop terrace of the Onassis Stegi, we are setting up an open-air cinema. And we are screening –what else?- “The Endless Summer” by Bruce Brown, the legendary documentary from 1966, a trip toward the sea and the sun which stops time.

In pursue for the perfect wave, Bruce Brown tried and managed to live one whole year in an ''endless summer''. He started together with Mike Hynson and Robert August, two of the best surfers of the ‘60s, from the West Coast of Africa, crossing the beaches of Senegal and Ghana to reach Cape Town. Then, the three men hitchhiked to the shore of Durban to discover in Cape St. Francis the perfect wave (with a spectacular height, 15-minute duration, and stable as if it was “machine-made”), and from there they continued to Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti, Hawaii, and back to California.

Liberating, rock’n’roll, more beautiful than anything filmed before in a fictional documentary, a legendary film-symbol about life on a surfboard and what that is about, and, eventually, the closest to what one could ever experience during a whole year of summer. And that does not only concern the weather conditions.

And of course, this will not be just a screening! Save the date and more information is on the way.

The Onassis Stegi collaborates with Flix.gr, a website focusing on cinema.

Since December 2016 and every month until June 2017, cinema aficionados meet at the Onassis Stegi for a series of screenings which promise surprises, introduce auteurs and make the tour of the world, proposing images that we want to see on the big screen.
Among these, one can find selections from the global cinematic map, premieres of beloved Greek films, tributes to unexplored areas of contemporary cinema, the small screen currently challenging the big one, classic masterpieces like we’ve never seen them before, creators that have not been forgotten by time, screenings for children which will be taken over by grown-ups.
The rendezvous, however, will expand outside the movie theater: live performances, cinema courses, exhibitions, concerts and open discussions with the audience will accompany each screening, offering a well-rounded cinematic experience and a different way of looking at cinema.
