Open Salon #3 took place within the context of the The Critical Practices Intensive Month curated and facilitated by Raed Yassin. As part of the Intensive Month, the group of five Fall 2019 participants along with the mentor and the Onassis ΑiR team, transplanted themselves to Indonesia, specifically to the city of Yogyakarta for 10 days, where they conducted workshops and meetings with artist collectives and art institutions, they visited the Yogyakarta Biennale and met with the curatorial team, they traveled to remote villages with historical monuments and site-specific contemporary art installations.
And so, for the Open Salon #3 the participants met the sun. Literally, the sun gave feedback in every possible way. Open Salon #3 took place on top of the world's largest Buddhist temple, the Borobudur Temple, where the sunrise is witnessed and shared with hundreds of Buddhas around 4:30 in the morning.
The Critical Practices—Open Salon, is an informal setting devised, facilitated and hosted by the group of the 5 participants of The Critical Practices Program. The logic of each Open Salon, the thematic, the format, will depend on what the group of participants wants to share at that moment with their peers and general public. This is a time to get feedback, or share thoughts or ideas.
